Crossfaded Tracks: 1&2, 5&6, 7&8, 10&11 -- burning to disc only works if you have audacity to convert to wav, otherwise there may be a weird click in the middle of the transition which is not cool, but maybe most of you have ipods or could just listen on the computer :P

The cover art is def. photoshopped. the original photo was from that same Ohio trip from '06... I can't help that I took good photos then (Original)
The liner notes aren't going to be very informative considering I don't feel like doing research right now and am watching, of all things, The Bachelorette (the men tell all episode! harrr). maybe one day I will edit this and just alert everyone on that day... or not

Also, please let me know if the links all work and the songs sound okay 'cause it's always worrisome when technology is involved and well, typing any code... hah (all I know is that it finally sounded good on disc :P)

Burial/Four Tet - Moth/Wolf Cub

Didn't take -too- long I guess

[Edit: Finally found a Neko Case download... this one may have to wait till after sleep to listen to though... kinda taking awhile.... and yes, I found the linked one while searching downloads on a forum... hurrah! almost kinda missed 'the' search... been spending too long searching for virtual cards lately (though yeah, I still like it... I just basically found almost all of them now... hahah) ;P]

I've been living under a rock this past year when it comes to music, so..... recommendations?
I was already told about the new dM, so I heard two songs from that... anything else?

(in case anyone still checks this who isn't on my filtered list :P)

This year, I decided I was just going to play an album association game instead of going into great detail like I usually do (though I kinda broke this rule a slight tad on the top two and added detail to the words). it's a lot more efficient and still at least kinda makes it interesting.

This is a live Tindersticks album from 8.2.94 in Amsterdam. it is the one I got the most crazy about finding and I seriously spent $80 to get it when basically the cover is printed on brown paper which resembles a paper bag in texture which was placed in a cut off plastic sleeve. it's rare though and I love it!

Also, it's my first instance of hearing the track Kathleen at all and I do believe it is better here than it is on the EP I got a bit after this. it was never put on a studio album either. the rest of the songs were mostly found on the first self titled album made in '93 I think. they still have an other worldly vibe here. also, For Those..... seems to be a good closer since it closes out Bloomsbury Theatre, too!

That is all I have to say. just listen to it! even if you're not a fan yet, you may just be after hearing this. also, find Bloomsbury Theatre... it has more of the songs from the second self titled album.

I got the link to download around 12:40 while I was chatting to JC (yay for it not getting lost like the confirmation email!) and while there are some tracks that need another listen to fully sink in, I reallly LOVE what they did with 'Nude'. it's been one of my fav. unreleased songs since I started listening to them.

Of the other tracks, 15 Step, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, All I Need, House of Cards, Jigsaw Falling Into Place (oh mayyn, I never heard this song in any form in my life and it rocked me!) and Videotape (I liked how they kept it simple) hit me the first time.

That's a pretty nice amount considering I'm one of the few fans who disliked Kid A and most of what they've done this decade (as I've probably mentioned before; maybe when I posted the Thom Yorke solo album? or maybe when HTTT came out? ..ahah). I think it's 'cause I secretly (okay! not so secretly! at least a year or two after it came out, it wasn't a secret. I did pretend to like it then) liked the bootleg versions of those Kid A tracks. at least this album does it all justice!

Anyway, now I really can't wait for that bonus disc in December.

This album got me pumped!

[Edit: Second listen... 'All I Need'.. the beat sounds like a Boards of Canada track, yes or no? roygbiv perhaps? I need to get it out later and compare

Alright, done with second listen, compared BoC to it and... not quite, but it does have that same sound if not the same melody, okay? I swear it!]

In Rainbows is out on the 10th of this month!

I'm sure most of you who are fans have heard.

I ordered the discbox*.. well, I got an order # and all that, but no confirmation email. it does seem the site is a bit bogged down though, so maybe it'll arrive later.

I'm excited!

* I almost wasn't going to since that is a lot of money, but then I remembered it was coming out in December -only the digital download comes out this month-, so it could count as an early xmas gift.. hah!

[Edit 5:30pm: Yeah, got charged for it, so all is well, but I hope even without the email, I can activate the digital download or I'll be asking around to those who do get it]

I got Pole's 'steingarten' album in the mail today. from the whole name to the snow capped mountains on the cover, I did indeed expect cold german electronica even before reading the one amazon review it got naming it as not as cold as the rest, but still creating a distance from its audience. I figured it was obviously supposed to create that coldness and distance.

It turns out I just suck when it comes to the knowledge of certain audio equipment: "Structurally, the music of Pole is based on abstract, irregular rhythms created by a defective analogue sound filter Betke uses, namely the 'Waldorf 4-Pole' filter. These rhythms principally are defect frequencies full of interference (in audio terms commonly referred to as 'noise'), not unlike the crackling sounds of vintage vinyl, except for a harder, purely digital quality, which makes them very immediate." [source: Matador Records: Pole Biography -- which was the first relevant google result when trying to find out more about Pole]

I still say there could be a double meaning!

During my first listen, I was reading some unrelated metafilter post and someone linked this. there are robots in it. I didn't turn the volume up, so I have no idea if it had music; I figure so.

Anyway, this Pole album went with it just as well... I could imagine choreographing (okay, if I knew how!) various people doing the robot to this music. this isn't bad in any way. I think I've watched too much So You Think You Can Dance (I'm going to miss that show... I admit, I still read up on them over at TWoP sometimes) though.

I just tried this (and no, I didn't get it from there. I got 2 on eBay for $38.99. great deal!)

Since I -just- tried it, I can't say what it'll do for me in the long run (and I think for the first attempt, I didn't apply enough... I read that dumping a whole packet in the tub it comes in then fishing it out with a spoon makes it last longer, but my little dot was barely enough to cover the whole face), but my face does feel rather smooth, so that's a plus.

The coveted melissas came in today and these actually fit (the purple ones unfortunately had a manufacturing error -- the left shoe was wider than the other. either that or someone stretched them out ...they hardly even smelled like fruit like this pair, so it's possible they were returned and resold.. bleh):

(I tried to imitate this photo on flickr, but I guess I didn't zoom out enough.. hah. plus, it was hard to balance my feet on the wall while sitting on a fitness ball!)

So yes, finally a pair I don't have to return! in fact, they're slightly more comfortable than the other flats I got recently which have the dr. scholl's inserts in the heel. I might have to buy more of these shoes in the future now that I know what they're really supposed to feel like when both shoes are the same width.

NPR: The National Play Nation's Capital

I was told about this recording just the other night. good stuff, really nice quality and some tracks were even better than on the album which is certainly hard to master going by how good the album is. also, hearing some of the tracks from 'Alligator' again makes me want to get it out. it's been awhile. the last track played is on Cherry Tree. I better go find that one, I'm a slacker.

To hear it, I just subscribed to the podcast, but I think there's a way to stream it...

Anyone else on there?
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] themunkee posting about it, I joined last night (it got rather fun thinking back to what I had read; I better get on my next book though), so even if you're not currently on there, join! I want more friends!

Found on the back of the shoebox for my new shoes:

It's ironic that the shoes are, in fact, painful. I didn't expect these ones to work out, but I had to see them anyway. good thing they're from endless. the return label is already printed out.

Dare I risk going for the next choice? it's in a style I generally work with... hm.

p.s. Unsure if the chat issue has been solved yet (spoken about in friends only), but at least I've taken care of laundry and showered. not that these are related things.. just that I've accomplished something if not solved everything (like chat or the shoe issue).

[Edit: Hm... okay, it seems chat is fine. hurrah!
I'll continue to monitor it though]

Randomly, when I was looking at some fashion photo set on flickr, I ran across someone wearing melissa+campana shoes. at that point, I didn't know they were plastic; I was just looking to get a pair in exchange for the red shoes that didn't work which I got on my bday (I would've just gotten a half size up, but no site sold that size), so was looking at all flats.

The word jellies was almost a turn-off, but after reading enough about how they differ from others and smell like fruit (!!!), I think I must have them.

Sadly, they didn't come in colours I would've rather had them in like black or red (at least not at stores in English.. hah. kanji anyone?), but purple may just work.

Here's the main website with all the designs: http://melissaaustralia.com.au/

The place I plan to get them from is here: Unsung Designers

Mom came up with the "20 something" idea since there wasn't a 6 candle in the drawer... hah!
I think I'm too young to not be using my full age though... well, let's hope!

The cake is sadly gone.. we ate the last two pieces tonight, so it's appropriate that mom sent me the pictures of it finally!

[Edit: Dreamhost is a bit slow right now, so if the image doesn't show up, just wait awhile]

So, last night was a bit crazy considering at first I had decided I'd just do the whole anthropologie exchange/Kirby Borders trip on Saturday since dad's off then, but there was a 'maybe' possibility for my bday just so I get gifts on that exact day. I wasn't in the mood to go the later it got since I was slightly irritable due to my broken sleep. nonetheless, once he came over, I was pushed to go do it before I just delay it further....

and so on! )

..and what is most important!

I ended up getting:
Black Heart Procession - The Spell
Electrelane - No Shouts No Calls
Herbert - 100lbs (reissue)
Junior Boys - So This is Goodbye
Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid - Tongues + The Exchange Session Vol.2
One AM Radio - This Too Will Pass
and Twilight Singers - Powder Burns

Dad paid for half though my rewards card was used to earn me points anyway.

There were a few others that I would've gotten, but remembered they were at the Borders down the street, so thought I'd save it for a trip there since there was also a graphic novel I couldn't get (Kirby hardly had a good graphic novel selection.. it was weird. manga took up two rows yet there were just two sections for graphic novels at the end of the manga's second row. even the one that was said to be there, I couldn't find so either someone else decided to get it or it was misplaced. oh well). yeah, I s'pose I didn't -have- to do that, but I thought I was going to be spending enough already not knowing about the deal.

Along with those, I got:
Tindersticks - Simple Pleasure
Bill Callahan - Woke On A Whaleheart

They were in the mail! [livejournal.com profile] erebrandir got me the latter one which surprised me since I didn't expect anything from non-relatives even if some people teased or considered getting me gifts in the past. it's really not necessary, but I appreciated it and already thanked him, but I'll document it here anyway!
Tindersticks was a gift from mom; it cost $25 through a seller on amazon marketplace. I listened to it a few times last night though, so it was already worth the price... a bit different than the past albums in that it was minimal, but it still had some of the classic Tindersticks sound mixed in with the pop/R&B/funk/disco-y elements.
