Mill Creek Park

Saturday it was a nice day outside, so I decided I wanted to try to get the photo for the cover of my current mix. I wasn't finding anything that worked right in the front or backyard when the batteries ran out, so I came back in to get new ones when grandpa suggested taking me up the road where there'd be more nature to take photos of instead of the sparseness of the yard. I agreed and just tossed anything on, so I'd be warmer since I was just in my robe in the yard.
When we got in the car (the lexus :P the top goes down and turns into a convertible, but it was too cold for that. I didn't get a picture of or in the car.. maybe next time) and were a ways down the road, he said "Eh, let's go to mill creek park. there's tons to take pictures of there."
I got slightly nervous about the change in plans considering I wasn't dressed for any real place and it was said to be far. I didn't really say much about it though. we went to the visitor center first. the drive was pleasant enough; we went through a bit of downtown Youngstown which grandpa rambled on about being more full of people dressed up walking the streets in the 40's, but now they all just go to malls.. hah. things do change!
Here I am in front of the building; there was a harsh wind for why I was standing all rigid like that, but then again, I always stand funny unless I'm told to straighten up:

Here's a colour shot of the area to the right of where I was standing showing the name of the place:

There were a couple wedding parties "milling" (sorry :P) about, so I felt even more out of place till a couple kids in hoodies walked through when we were on our way out.

That's the sign right at the entrance to the garden which is to the left of the main building. it's a nice place. we would've spent more time around there if those wedding parties weren't all standing in the way; I didn't want to get them in any of the photos.

The main garden area.

Me in front of the fountain.

Grandpa in front of the same fountain.
When turning around, I took a photo of the walkway out of the fountain corner:

Grandpa said the names on the stones were people who donated to the center.
At this point, we walked down a stone staircase where some men in suits were smoking cigars to go over to the railing and look out at the water:

On the walk back down a sidewalk, I took a picture of this random statue:

..then we finally decided to leave. on the drive around and out of the parking lot, there was this random scarecrow display:

It's too bad I didn't get a front view, but it was a dead end over there, so we had to turn around and back out the way we came.
---
At this point, we went to another area of the park, but didn't get out of the car. I snapped some stuff like this playground which I didn't get a good closeup of; can barely tell there's a swingset there:

Also, there was this bridge which I considered for my mix cover art, but there probably are a lot of bridge covers out there; we'll see. I may still use it unless some of you have a better suggestion out of these photos or I may use a photo of the fountain by itself:

---
I think at this point, we ran across the entrance to the cabins. grandpa says they have baseball games and such out there. it just seemed random; these cabins:

Before leaving, grandpa suggested I stand by the sign which I was reluctant to do since it was quite gusty right there in that spot by the side of the road. I would've liked it if not for that pissed off look on my face. I'm unsure if it was bracing for the wind or if I was really ticked off about having to stand there for a photo.. heh. ah well. I do notice when I'm waiting for photos to snap, I always have a rather 'why me?' type of look or 'hurry the fuck up' one. it looks like I'm an escaped convict or like I should be holding a shotgun yelling at someone to get off my lawn:

We continued up the road till we came to this point where grandpa said was a nice ravine. I didn't catch it. it looks like a spot where you'd hide the dead body really. I think it's only 'cause I made it b/w.
Check the contrast against these leaves which were around the same spot by the side of the road:

Also, this one which looks like it should be in a car commercial. it's the winding road going away from the ravine spot. it's interesting how colour can change the whole tone of a photo from ominous to nice and cheerful:

And lastly, here's a lonesome tree from which I forget where it came from; maybe another side of the road photo?:

Anyway, at this point, the camera ran out of memory, grandpa couldn't find a water wheel he wanted to show me and only found some house he wanted to show me from the back. he couldn't figure out how to circle around to get to the front of it, so we just decided to head on home. it was nice to see some of it nonetheless. he says the park goes on for miles and miles and that people come from all over the country to go to it to golf or just walk around. it was pretty nice; the closest I could think of to that type of scenery in Houston was around the woodlands which I haven't been to in about a decade. it had the same type of wooden signs and all.

Date: 2006-10-17 03:44 am (UTC)Yeah, grandpa said the leaves hadn't even changed fully here yet and I was thinking 'What? These aren't fall leaves?!' ahah.
Heh.. yep, I remember the cold winters; we used to visit over here for xmas every year till '98. I doubt I'll still be there at that point unless they don't kick me out and I don't say anything ;D (one way tickets can be fun.. ahah)
It does get about as cold as it is here now around November in Texas though, so we do get a bit of a cold front. it's just that here, it gets even colder at that point :P
It's a good thing I bought a couple more jackets since getting here.

Date: 2006-10-17 04:50 am (UTC)That'd be the only logical reason to go home; if it started snowing and the weather dropped to the point where my version of winter clothes wouldn't cut it :P
...and yep, about an hour or two away from Cleveland!

Date: 2006-10-17 05:09 am (UTC)I'm sure I could borrow a jacket if it came to being stuck, but yeah, I doubt it'd be much fun.
